Jamie McIntyre Sues News Corp for More Than $4 Million Over Alleged “Fake News” Hit Pieces
Australian entrepreneur and political commentator Jamie McIntyre has commenced Federal Court proceedings seeking more than $4 million in damages over articles published by News Corp Australia several months ago.
The proceeding appears on the Federal Court’s public register under file number WAD344/2026 and can be viewed through the Commonwealth Courts Portal.
McIntyre alleges that the articles formed part of a character-assassination campaign containing false and seriously damaging claims, including allegations that he had lost investors’ money.
He emphatically denies those allegations and claims the publications failed to explain where investors’ funds were paid, who controlled those funds and whether the money ever reached McIntyre’s property-development company.
According to McIntyre, the articles caused substantial damage to his reputation, businesses and standing as an entrepreneur and political commentator. His Federal Court claim seeks more than $4 million in damages and compensation.
Alleged $6–7 Million Fraud Against McIntyre’s Company
McIntyre further alleges that News Corp relied heavily upon information supplied by people associated with what he describes as a “criminal syndicate” that targeted his property projects and allegedly defrauded his company of between $6 million and $7 million.
These remain McIntyre’s allegations and have not yet been finally determined by a court.
McIntyre claims that News Corp’s reporting reversed the true position by portraying him as responsible for investors’ losses while failing to properly investigate allegations that millions of dollars intended for his projects had instead been diverted or withheld by third parties.
“The suggestion that I simply lost investors’ money is false,” McIntyre said.
“Our position is that our company and its projects were themselves targeted and defrauded of between six and seven million Australian dollars. Instead of properly investigating where that money went, News Corp published a narrative supplied by the very people we allege were responsible.”
Questions Over News Corp’s Reliance on Adrian Campbell
McIntyre says News Corp must now explain the extent to which its articles relied upon information supplied by Adrian Campbell or people associated with him.
McIntyre alleges that Campbell played a central role in the campaign against him and his projects. He argues that News Corp failed to adequately disclose Campbell’s history, credibility issues and alleged commercial interests when presenting accusations attributed to Campbell and his associates.
“Why was the Murdoch press willing to publish damaging allegations supplied by Adrian Campbell and his associates without properly disclosing their backgrounds or investigating their motives?” McIntyre asked.
“Why did News Corp present their narrative as credible while failing to investigate our evidence that millions of dollars belonging to the development were diverted away from our company?”
McIntyre alleges that Campbell now resides outside Australia and has a history that should have prompted considerably greater scrutiny before News Corp relied upon claims associated with him.
August Federal Court Decision Lifted Publication Restraints
On 20 August 2026, the Federal Court discharged interim publication restraints previously obtained by Campbell. That decision was a procedural victory for McIntyre, but it did not finally determine the underlying financial disputes or decide responsibility for the allegedly missing project funds.
The lifting of the restraints nevertheless allowed material concerning Campbell’s disclosed criminal history and the competing allegations between the parties to be discussed publicly. A contemporaneous report said Campbell’s affidavit disclosed prior fraud convictions and that the decision renewed scrutiny over allegedly unaccounted-for investor funds. McIntyre says it is particularly concerning that News Corp has not revisited or corrected its reporting following those developments.
“The Federal Court restraints were discharged, allowing the public to see information that had previously been suppressed,” McIntyre said.
“Yet News Corp has continued to leave Australians with a misleading narrative constructed from material supplied by the very group we allege targeted and defrauded our company.”
GIM Trading and the Missing $23 Million
McIntyre has also called for scrutiny of Campbell’s alleged connections with people or entities associated with GIM Trading.
The ABC reported that ASIC alleged GIM Trading received approximately $23 million from investors before most of the money was transferred offshore to companies in Hong Kong. The ABC report identified Stephen Cubis and Darren Geddes in connection with the movement of those funds; it did not establish that Campbell controlled GIM Trading or was responsible for the transfers. Any claimed connection between Campbell and GIM Trading is an allegation by McIntyre that would require independent evidence and has not been established by the cited ABC report.
McIntyre says News Corp should disclose what checks it conducted into its sources and whether it investigated any alleged relationships between those sources, GIM Trading and other businesses facing fraud allegations or regulatory scrutiny.
“Is News Corp Aiding and Abetting a False Narrative?”
McIntyre says his Federal Court action will examine what News Corp knew, what supporting material it possessed and what verification occurred before the disputed articles were published.
“The question News Corp must answer is whether it unwittingly repeated a false narrative or knowingly assisted people who were attempting to conceal their own conduct by blaming me,” McIntyre said.
“If a media organisation publishes content supplied by people accused of diverting millions of dollars, without properly investigating their role or disclosing their background, then serious questions arise about whether that organisation is reporting the news or helping to advance someone else’s agenda.”
McIntyre argues that the proceeding raises broader questions about media accountability and the power of major publications to cause severe reputational and commercial damage before disputed accusations have been tested in court.
“News Corp demands accountability from politicians, businesspeople and members of the public,” he said. “It must accept the same accountability when it publishes false and damaging allegations.”
News Corp will have the opportunity to answer McIntyre’s allegations. The commencement of Federal Court proceedings does not establish liability, and the disputed claims remain to be determined by the Court unless the parties reach an earlier resolution.
