An empty chair in a surgical suite or a darkened clinic office isn’t just a logistical headache. It is a hemorrhaging wound on the balance sheet.

In her new book, The Physician Recruitment Playbook, Tammy D. Hager, MBA, FABC, examines the true economics of healthcare staffing. Hager, a veteran of the industry with a background that bridges high-level business administration and clinical reality, argues that the cost of vacancy is an underestimated metric in healthcare leadership today.

By using strategic locum tenens providers and streamlining the credentialing process, Hager shows leaders how to keep service lines open while they search for a permanent fit. The book argues that time-to-fill belongs on the list of key performance indicators reported directly to the board of directors.
