Open your favorite social media app and scroll for two minutes. Chances are, you’ll come across at least one video telling you not to eat something.
Carbs? Bad. Fat? Worse. Meat? Out of the question. Dairy? A disaster. Fruit? Too much sugar. Vegetables? They could have too many oxalates. Grains? Too much phytic acid.
“Most people don’t know what to eat anymore,” Rich Chi, founder of the Muscle Release System, states. “They’re left staring at their fridge, scared to touch what’s inside. Nutrition should not be this stressful!”
It wasn’t always like this. A generation ago, many people trusted a few basic rules. Eat fresh food. Cook at home. Stay active.
If you were lucky, your grandmother or your local farmer’s market told you what was good in season.
Today, millions rely on social media influencers to guide their food choices. Every week, a new “expert” claims to have found the real culprit behind weight gain or fatigue. One day, eggs are healthy. The next day, they’re poison.
Many of these claims may lack proper evidence but still spread quickly and widely.
As a personal trainer, registered dietitian, creator of The Muscle Release System (MRS), and Wellness Coach specializing in Longevity, Rich Chi sees this confusion every day.
“People are so stressed about what to eat, they forget the basics,” he says. “The truth is simple; listen to your body. There’s wisdom in the past.”
Food fear is more than an inconvenience. Stress around food can negatively impact your overall sense of wellness. Studies have shown that constant stress affects digestion, sleep, and even your immune system.
When you panic over every bite, you may lose touch with what your body actually needs.
Rich warns that this obsession is backward. “True wellness comes from paying attention to how food makes you feel. Not from following random videos.”
Somewhere along the way, the simple idea of eating real food turned into a maze of contradictions. For example:
- Some diets claim fruit is bad because it has sugar.
- Others ban bread and grains completely.
- Others demand you cut out all the fat.
- Some want you to give up meat.
- Others push you to eat only meat.
It is impossible to follow all these rules at once. Trying to do so may create unnecessary guilt, shame, and anxiety.
In the end, your wellness — and your relationship with food — could suffer.
While figuring out what to eat out of an endless grocery store’s worth of options can be overwhelming, ancient healing systems hold much wisdom. It can be tricky though, as a lot of the ancient wisdom gets overlooked in this modern-day latest-is-greatest culture.
“When I felt how much electricity my teachers could shoot out of their hands, I realized, yeah; they may know a thing or two more than my 20 years of nutrition experience,” Rich chuckles.
“But so many ancient principles about nutrition are just now getting verified 3000-5000 years later, so I love that research is finally catching up with ancient wisdom,” he further explains.
Rich’s approach is simple: avoid overprocessed food and an excess of anything — especially a few key things like sugar, fats, and cold food and drinks. Now, this doesn’t mean you can’t have any sugar, fat, or cold foods or drinks. Moderation is key.
Rich puts it this way: “If you eat something that throws your body off balance on a regular basis, your body will end up so off-course, it may take an experienced travel guide to help get it back on track. Excess of anything could hurt you.”
So what should you eat? Rich recommends these guiding points:
- Choose real, whole foods. The closer your food is to its natural state, the better. This includes whole grains, fruits and vegetables, lean meat, fish & poultry, beans, peas & lentils, and healthy fats like nuts, seeds, avocados, and olive oil. “If you eat good, whole foods, you can rest assured you are at least eating clean and more likely feel good after you are done eating.”
- Cook at home when possible. Home cooking gives you control over ingredients and portions. And make a larger batch if possible; leftovers can save time.
- Avoid heavily processed foods. If the label has dozens of chemicals you cannot pronounce, it may be more of a food product than actual food at this point.
- Hydrate well. Many people mistake thirst for hunger. Drink enough water daily, especially when you first wake up, which is usually when we are most dehydrated.
- Notice patterns. Keep a simple journal if needed. How does your body react to different foods? And try to leave a little room when you eat i.e., don’t eat ‘til you feel like bursting. This is for the bioelectricity to help digest your food.
- Wisdom is Power. If you need help figuring out how to balance your diet, knowing specifics can help take the guesswork and the stress out of choosing your foods.

Each new trend or fear-based message is usually just used to sell a product, supplement, or subscription. The more people doubt their instincts, the more money companies can make selling the next “solution.”
Rich believes people need to “Get back to nature,” what they figured out thousands of years ago, and reclaim trust in your own experience by mixing the right information with listening to your body.
With the right nutrition guidance and knowledge, Rich assures you can “Bring your body back into balance and keep it there without stressing out before every meal. “I completely understand what it feels like to have food stress,” Rich empathizes.
“I was so exhausted at one point. And I didn’t know what was causing my fatigue! So I developed a serious form of food anxiety.” But with the right guidance from world-class masters of yoga, bioelectricity, and nutrition, Rich says he now no longer frets about what to eat. And he loves empowering others with the same wisdom as well.
Rich’s work goes deeper than food alone. “While food is important, it’s just one pillar of wellness.” You can eat the perfect diet, but if you are only sleeping 4 hours a night, not getting any physical activity, or living a super stressful lifestyle, you’re unlikely to feel like you’re at 100%. And chances are, you’re going to age quicker than you need to.”
That is why Rich’s Recharging Wellness Coaching combines nutrition with the Muscle Release System fitness plans, daily encouragement, sleep tips, and bioelectricity balancing.
He reminds people that no superfood can fix a stressful lifestyle. But when you pair simple eating habits with muscle release, rest, and mindful awareness, you increase your chances of recharging like never before.
While everyone is trying to convince you what to eat, what not to eat, or how many milligrams of the next miracle supplement to take, one thing almost everyone misses is boosting your digestive “fire.”
“Your digestive fire is how strong your digestion is, basically,” Rich explains. Ancient healing systems referred to the strength of our digestion as our digestive “fire.” How strong it is determines how easily we are able to “melt” our food and get energy from it.
But, according to Rich, almost no one seems to focus on this very important aspect of nutrition.
“Just because you don’t have any gastrointestinal symptoms or all your tests are normal, doesn’t mean your digestion is 100%,” Rich reminds us. He instead recommends doing this quick test:
Notice how you feel after you eat. If you are buzzing with energy like a kid after a birthday cake (and you haven’t loaded up on sugar, carbs, or other stimulants like caffeine), then your digestive fire is probably pretty good! However, if you get no energy after eating, feel tired, or even feel like passing out for a few hours, then you need to pause and consider. Either you ate too much or your digestion is weaker than you think.
This is the same simple test Rich recommends to his clients. It’s helped them establish a baseline for their digestive health.
“Once you know the strength of your digestive fire, you can start doing things to improve it. And there are so many ways to do so,” Rich says. Some examples: walking after eating, eating warmer foods, consuming hot drinks, and so on. Improving your digestive fire also improves the energy and nutrients you get from the food you eat.
Rich Chi strives for balance in everything he does. And he understands how difficult it can be sorting through all the latest misinformation, research, and “don’t eat this!” videos on social media.
“I remember working in nursing homes, dialysis centers, and diabetes clinics. They were so overwhelmed by specialists telling them what they couldn’t eat for each of their 3 or 4 chronic diseases, they felt like there was nothing left,” Rich says. “But with the right guidance on how to stay balanced and knowing good limits to set on different foods, every patient was able to relax and choose their meals and snacks with confidence.”
