Financial planning brings technical questions into some of life’s most personal decisions: providing for dependents, preparing for retirement, and preserving what a family has built. Karan Purba became increasingly interested in that intersection during his accounting career. He wanted to help people understand how financial strategies applied to their circumstances, a goal that eventually drew him into financial services.

Having moved from Punjab to Canada in 2017 to build a better life for his family, Karan understood how much could rest on those decisions. Today, the British Columbia-based financial educator, entrepreneur, and coach works to make financial knowledge more approachable and mentors professionals who can bring that understanding into their own communities.

Building a Foundation, Then Questioning Its Direction

Born and raised in Muktsar, a small Punjab town, Karan built his Canadian career step by step. Technology sales at Staples came first. Bookkeeping followed, and from 2018 to 2023 he worked as an Accounting Technician. Along the way, he gained fluency in taxation, financial reporting, and business finances, and he set his sights on becoming a CPA.

Accounting gave him discipline and an appreciation for detail, but it also raised a question about his future. He wanted to become more involved in the choices behind the records he examined. Understanding someone’s financial position was valuable; helping that person consider where to go next increasingly held his attention.

Bringing Financial Knowledge Into Personal Decisions

“As an accountant, I could help people understand their numbers, but I wanted to help solve the bigger problem of money management,” Karan explains. His transition into financial services in the final quarter of 2023 brought him closer to discussions about retirement, wealth building, and protecting a family against financial uncertainty.

“I wanted to help people make better financial decisions going forward,” he says. The change required him to connect technical knowledge with priorities that could differ considerably between households. It also introduced entrepreneurship into his career. Building a business offered the prospect of greater control over his time while giving him responsibility for the direction his work would take.

Turning Financial Knowledge Into Practical Understanding

Karan’s educational work addresses a gap that income alone cannot resolve: knowing how to make sense of financial options. Individuals such as professionals and business owners seek guidance on planning for retirement, protecting their families, managing their estates, and coordinating business and personal finances. For newcomers to Canada, making these decisions also requires an understanding of the country’s financial system. He explains them in language that connects with each person’s circumstances.

An online following gives Karan a wider audience for his financial education work. He uses concise posts and visual explanations to address questions about money in terms readers can relate to their own circumstances.

Helping Professionals Find Their Stride

Mentorship has made Karan’s ambitions increasingly connected to the progress of his colleagues. He personally supports more than 50 licensed financial consultants as they develop the knowledge and confidence to serve clients. For him, building a capable team creates the opportunity to share financial understanding more widely while helping others pursue their own professional goals.

“My goal is not simply to build a business for myself, but to multiply the number of people who can provide better financial education and planning,” he explains. Karan says the broader team has served more than 2,500 individuals and families. Behind that figure are consultants establishing relationships of their own, carrying financial education into communities where their work can continue to develop.

Twenty-Two Years Without a Vacation

Among the experiences Karan recalls most vividly is a colleague’s account of going 22 years without taking a vacation in her previous job. During her first year building the business, he says, she took two vacations and spent more time with her daughters. The significance, for him, rests in the family time those changes made possible.

That colleague’s story explains his ambitions more personally than any professional milestone could. Greater control over work matters to Karan because it can create room for commitments that otherwise keep getting postponed. His own family remains central to that understanding of progress.

Recognition and a Wider Educational Role

Karan was named a NextGEN Under 30 honouree in 2026. The summit’s digital magazine also profiled his financial planning, accessible education, and advisor mentorship. He says he has spoken at financial and professional conferences before audiences of thousands, extending the educational work he conducts online and through individual conversations.

Karan’s next phase centers on developing the people he mentors and making his financial education more useful to a wider audience. Over time, he intends to establish a network of financial professionals serving communities across Canada. His own experience as a newcomer informs that ambition: he understands that building a life in a new country also involves learning how its financial system works.

A Personal Mission With a Wider Reach

The family aspirations that brought Karan Purba to Canada remain present in his work. They also help him recognize why a client’s financial question or a colleague’s career decision may carry considerable personal weight. His guiding belief is direct: “Everyone deserves to have a better future, and only you have the power to make it so.” Education and mentorship are how he has chosen to contribute to that effort.
