For Rafael and Oriana, Studio 58 did not begin with a lease, a logo, or a grand opening announcement. It began with a dream.
Like many immigrants, the young couple came to the United States hoping to build a better future, one rooted in opportunity, financial freedom, and the chance to create something meaningful together. Years of hard work, determination, and belief in their vision have led them to this moment: the upcoming grand opening of Studio 58, their new tattoo studio at 314 Raritan Avenue in Highland Park, New Jersey, with doors expected to officially open this September.
“We came to the United States with a dream,” they reflect. “To grow as people, build financial freedom, and create something we could truly be proud of.”
Today, that dream is becoming reality.
Although the official grand opening date has yet to be announced, Rafael and Oriana say the wait is almost over.
“Our Grand Opening is getting closer,” they share. “We’re incredibly excited to finally share everything we’ve been working on. It’s more than opening a tattoo shop. It’s the beginning of a community and a space we’ve dreamed about for a long time.”
That distinction matters to them.
Studio 58 was never intended to be just another tattoo shop. From the beginning, Rafael and Oriana envisioned a place where artistry and hospitality would carry equal weight, a studio where clients feel cared for throughout the process as well as proud of the artwork they leave with.
Behind every design choice, every conversation, and every decision is the partnership they have built together. Rafael is the studio’s lead tattoo artist, known for his Black & Grey and Realism work, while Oriana has played an important role in shaping the brand, the client journey, and the atmosphere that defines Studio 58.
“Every decision we make is intentional,” they explain. “Studio 58 is a reflection of both of us, our creativity, our values, and our belief that getting tattooed should feel just as special as the artwork itself.”
That philosophy is woven into the studio’s approach.
“Our goal is to elevate the tattoo experience,” Rafael says. “We want people to feel comfortable, safe, and inspired the moment they walk through our doors.”
For Rafael, a strong tattoo is about more than technical skill. It is also about trust, communication, and creating an environment where clients can feel comfortable from the first consultation through the healing process.
“We care about aesthetics,” he says, “but we care just as much about the way people feel. We want clean vibes, happy energy, and a smooth process from the first consultation to the day your tattoo is fully healed.”
That mindset reflects what Rafael believes the tattoo industry can look like moving forward.
“For us, it’s about changing the standard,” he explains. “People shouldn’t have to choose between incredible artwork and an amazing experience. They deserve both.”
His own work reflects that same philosophy.
Specializing in Black & Grey and Realism, Rafael approaches each piece with patience, precision, and respect for the permanence of his craft.
“Every tattoo deserves patience, precision, and attention to detail,” he says. “It’s something that will stay with someone forever.”
Appointments with Rafael are already available, giving clients an opportunity to experience Studio 58 before its official grand opening. At the same time, Rafael and Oriana are carefully assembling what they describe as their dream team, artists who bring strong talent and share the values that have shaped the studio from the beginning.
They are looking for artists with diverse styles and techniques, believing every client should have the chance to work with someone whose artistic vision aligns with their own. Looking ahead, they also hope to welcome guest artists, bringing fresh perspectives and broader creative influence to Highland Park while continuing to celebrate the opportunities that allowed them to bring their own talents to the United States.
Studio 58 is also investing in the future of tattooing through apprenticeship opportunities.
“We’re open to taking apprentices who are serious about learning,” Rafael says. “Tattooing should be taught with patience, discipline, and respect.”
Those principles extend beyond artists and into every client interaction. Rafael encourages anyone considering a tattoo to choose an artist who prioritizes hygiene, professionalism, and transparency.
“Getting a tattoo is a lifelong investment,” he says. “Always make sure your artist follows proper hygiene practices, uses sterile equipment, and takes the time to answer your questions.”
He is equally focused on educating clients about proper aftercare, emphasizing that healing is an important part of the tattoo process.
“Following your artist’s instructions will help your tattoo heal properly and look its best for years to come.”
As Studio 58 prepares to welcome its first official wave of clients this September, Rafael and Oriana are not simply celebrating the opening of a business. They are celebrating the result of years of sacrifice, perseverance, and belief in one another.
Reflecting on everything that brought them here, Rafael offers the thought that continues to guide both his work and the studio itself.
“Studio 58 is much bigger than a tattoo shop for us. It’s proof that hard work, consistency, and believing in your vision can take you further than you ever imagined. We came to this country with big dreams, and today we’re building something that represents not only our passion for tattooing, but also the values we live by: respect, creativity, quality, and community. We want everyone who walks through our doors to leave with an incredible tattoo, but more importantly, with an experience they’ll never forget.”
When Studio 58 officially opens its doors this September, visitors will be stepping into a new tattoo studio built around Rafael and Oriana’s shared vision. For them, it represents a personal milestone shaped by talent, intention, and a passion for creating artwork, relationships, and community that can last beyond the moment the ink has healed.
